Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, a forward for the Super Eagles and Rangers, is reportedly close to joining AEK Athens, the 13-time Greek champions.
The 30-year-old striker arrived at Ibrox in the summer of 2023, signing a four-year contract worth €5 million. Life in Scotland has been dilly-dallying for Dessers, as he has won over half of the Rangers fans, while the other half can’t wait to get rid of him because of how annoying it can be to watch the former Cremonese striker squander opportunities.
Dessers does, however, have a decent goal-scoring record at Rangers. In 109 games in all competitions, he’s scored 51 goals and assisted on 16 more. The 1.85-metre-tall striker is now exploring a move away from Rangers, who are undergoing major changes this summer. They’ve been purchased by new owners (the 49ers) and have a new coach (Russell Martin). According to the Daily Record, AEK Athens has made the Super Eagles attacker their primary target this summer, with their new owner willing to spend big to get his club back into major competitions.
Dessers has verbally agreed to a £30,000-a-week deal with Greek Champions, which would pay him about 1.8 million euros per year. The only details of the deal that remain to be finalized are with Rangers. With the striker, he is ready to go.
If Dessers’ transfer to Greece goes through, he would join former Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial and former Tottenham midfielder Erik Lamela.
