Tottenham are considering an approach for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite

Tottenham are considering an approach for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

Their interest, which may be formalised as early as this week, comes despite the Toffees informing bidders that Branthwaite will not be sold this summer.

Chelsea have been considering a move, and Spurs were expected to test the waters, but David Moyes wants the highly sought-after England international to stay.

Manchester United had proposals worth around £50 million rejected last year, while Liverpool and Manchester City have also maintained a close eye on the centre back.

Moyes understands how vital Branthwaite has become as part of a tenacious backline that includes James Tarkowski, Jake O’Brien, and Jordan Pickford.

Indeed, he hopes to retain the backbone of his defence together when Everton moves from Goodison Park to their new stadium at Bramley Moore.

However, Branthwaite is thought to be eager to go on to the Champions League, and Spurs can provide him with that opportunity after defeating United in the Europa League final last month.

Everton, who are under the shadow of the Profit and Sustainability Rules, are realistic and could consider bids of around £70 million.

However, Moyes is hoping that new owners the Friedkin Group will be able to turn down any big-money offers for the 22-year-old, if only for the summer.

Branthwaite appeared in 32 games in all competitions last season despite missing the first few months due to groin surgery.

Tottenham are currently led by Thomas Frank, and on Sunday, the club announced the permanent signing of promising attacker Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Everton is one of the clubs showing interest in Lyon left defender Nicolas Tagliafico, who is out of contract this month.
