Deal off? AEK Athens coach addressed Cyriel Dessers’ links

Marko Nikolic, AEK Athens’ head coach, has made a stunning statement about his team’s interest in Rangers and Super Eagles forward Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, according to Soccernet.ng.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from Hampden Park, with the Greek Champions apparently agreeing to personal terms with the Belgian-born Nigerian attacker.

Furthermore, Dessers’ former club, Feyenoord, has renewed their interest in him ahead of the 2025/2026 season, raising the prospect of an emotional reunion.

However, a deal for Dessers appears to be off after the Athens coach revealed that his team is not looking for a forward this summer.

“No, because in attack we are good with Zini, Pierrot, Martial, and even Eliasson,” the Serbian remarked, according to the Daily Record.

“We’re working on the left back, but we’ve got time. Finding full-backs on the market is always challenging. It’s not a big deal; we’re also searching for a player in another position,” Nikolic said.

With Athens reportedly out of the picture, the Dessers’ alternatives include returning to Holland or staying at Ibrox.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ new manager, Russell Martin, is excited to work with the Nigerian international and has ruled out any potential exit.

“No, I don’t think I can talk about his [Dessers’] future. Updates will be provided when they become available.

“So, at the moment, I’m expecting him to return on Monday, and I’m looking forward to working with him,” the former Southampton manager stated in an interview with Sky Sports Scotland.
