Kevin Thelwell lands Aasgaard transfer as major Martin update emerges from Rangers

Rangers are set to complete the signing of Thelo Aasgaard from Luton Town.

The midfielder will be the Ibrox club’s fourth transfer of the summer, as they look to bolster the squad of new head coach Russell Martin.

Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez and Max Aarons have already walked through the doors at Ibrox, with Aasgaard now set to join them.

And there is no sign that Rangers intend to stop there, either, with further links emerging every day.

Aasgaard to complete Rangers move

Aasgaard, a goal-scoring midfielder, is expected to strengthen Martin’s options going forward.

The Norwegian international only joined Luton in January from Wigan, but following their relegation from the Championship, the Hatters are not prepared to stand in his way.

Seen as a great signing for the Championship club, Aasgaard had scored eight goals and provided two assists in League One before his move, going on to add two goals and one assist in the league above.

Russell Martin

According to the Daily Record (page 56, July 5), Rangers will pay a fee that could reach £4million for the 23-year-old, who both Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell see as a “major” part of the rebuild.

The newspaper also reports that Martin will look to complete moves for Leicester’s Conor Coady and Wolves’ Nasser Djiga following the completion of Aasgaard’s move.

The latter, a 22-year-old centre-back, is close to agreeing a loan move that will see him make the switch to Glasgow.

With the Englishman’s squad already taking shape, Martin is eager to bolster his options with players fully committed to his vision.

Martin leading a new dawn at Rangers

Rangers fans will be excited to see their club backing their new head coach, with a fresh start promised at Ibrox under Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers.

If the former Saints man proved anything in the Premier League, it was his undying commitment to his vision of football.

Rangers can expect to see progressive, brave tactics from their players, and naturally, decision-makers must provide Martin with players capable of playing it.

For a club who have cried out for stability over recent years, fans will find comfort in the seeming belief that has been placed in Martin’s brand, with positive results set to reward ambition in the market.
