Neil Warnock fires Celtic dig in new Russell Martin Rangers claim

Neil Warnock left Alan Brazil in amusement after discussing Russell Martin’s appointment at Rangers.

Rangers are yet to start their summer business, though with all of the obstacles out of the way, it will only be a matter of time until some movement is noticed at Ibrox.

With Russell Martin appointed, and the 49ers Enterprises well underway in their attempts to get Rangers back on track, and able to compete at the top of Scottish football, which has been dominated by Celtic as of late.

However, Warnock was keen to fire a dig at the Bhoys at Brazil’s expense when discussing what the future holds for the Light Blues.

Rangers have an immense amount of work to do this summer

Celtic had a very comfortable campaign last time out, and the Light Blues need to find a way to bridge that gap if they are to start competing for silverware once again.

After the failures demonstrated under Philippe Clement and the lack of improvement after that under Barry Ferguson, Martin will be fully aware of the magnitude of the task that awaits him at Ibrox.

However, Warnock, when asked if he thinks the former Saints boss will succeed in Glasgow, was full of praise for Martin, and couldn’t resist a slight dig aimed at Celtic, albeit in a rather jokey manner.

Speaking via talkSPORT (18 June), Warnock said: “I do, yeah [think Martin can do a good job], against you lot.

“I think if it could just get a little bit more direct, instead of, you know, 20 passes at the back, if it can get a bit more direct, I think they’d give your lot a game.”

Of course, Brendan Rodgers will be just as keen to continue his success at Celtic Park ahead of what will be an exciting season.

Rangers have no margin for error this summer

If the Gers are to actually compete with Celtic, like Warnock mentioned, recruitment has to be perfect in the coming weeks.

Several players have been linked with a move to Ibrox, and those on the recruitment team need to ensure that each incoming player is the right profile, and most importantly, will improve the starting 11, which struggled domestically last season.

Those of a Light Blue persuasion will have their eyes on movement at Ibrox, ahead of what will be a very intriguing summer period.
