Today is an infamous day on the calendar: Friday the 13th.
The date, traditionally connected with superstitious bad luck, evokes misfortunes and dread, many of which are depicted in horror films.
In honor of this Friday the 13th, the crack NFL Research staff has compiled the most “bad luck” stats for 2024.

Let’s dive in.
The Eagles running back amassed 2,000 rushing yards and was named AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, but his stats could have been much more impressive.
Barkley achieved a career high with 13 rush touchdowns in 2024, but he was also tackled 11 times on the opposing 1-yard line, a league high. During nine drives, Jalen Hurts scored seven rush touchdowns, one pass touchdown, and one field goal on 11 plays, including two tackles at the 1-yard line.

Last season, no other player was tackled at the 1-yard line more than eight times. Five players matched for the record: Cardinals’ James Conner, Panthers’ Chuba Hubbard, Lions’ David Montgomery, Buccaneers’ Bucky Irving, and Commanders’ Brian Robinson.
The two former first-round picks were both the victim of numerous dropped passes. According to Next Gen Stats, Mayfield and Herbert dropped 25 passes in 2024 (tied for the most in the NFL). Top 5: Herbert (25), Mayfield (25), Joe Burrow (24), Aaron Rodgers (24), and Jordan Love (23).

Williams struggled as a rookie. Some of the difficulties centered on the youthful passer. Others were on a terrible offensive line. According to Next Gen Stats, Williams received 57 unblocked pressures and 13 unblocked sacks in 2024 (the highest total in the NFL).
In Year 2, Chicago wants to offset that dismal stat line with stronger blocking and a more savvy quarterback.
In 2024, Smith passed for a career-high 4,320 yards in Seattle’s pass-happy system. Without yellow hankies, the figure could have been greater. Smith (now with the Raiders) had 249 pass yards nullified by penalties in 2024, the most in the NFL.

Jacobs, like Geno, had a large number of yards erased by unlawful offensive tactics. The Packers’ running back had 94 rush yards neutralized by penalty, the most in the NFL, and three touchdowns disallowed by penalty, tied for the most.
Two of the five players who had the most rush yards canceled by penalty were quarterbacks (Jacobs, 94; QB Lamar Jackson, 87; RB Tony Pollard, 67; QB Patrick Mahomes, 66; RB K.
You guessed it: the WR version of the final two sections. Collins had 142 receiving yards nullified by penalties in 2024, the most in the NFL. The Texans wideout was one of four players with 100+ receiving yards disallowed by penalty (Pittsburgh’s George Pickens, 122; New Orleans’ Juwan Johnson, 117; Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba, 114).

In 2024, Zaccheaus matched his career best of three receiving touchdowns while also tying Jacobs with three touchdowns disallowed by penalties.
According to Next Gen Stats, the Defensive Rookie of the Year was fourth in the NFL in pressures (76), but tied for T-95th in sacks (4.5). In 2024, the lowest sack conversion rate in the NFL among 72 edge rushers with 250 or more pass rush snaps was 5.9 percent (4.5 sacks on 76 pressures). Verse has already promised to change this figure by 2025.

Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson: 92 pressures, 17.5 sacks.
Texans’ Danielle Hunter: 90 pressures and 12.0 sacks.
Browns’ Myles Garrett: 84 pressures and 14.0 sacks.
Rams’ Jared Verse: 76 pressures, 4.5 sacks.
Cowboys’ Micah Parsons: 75 pressures and 12.0 sacks.
