From 1959 until Russell’s retirement in 1969, the NBA was characterized by the rivalry between him and Wilt Chamberlain.
Whether Chamberlain was with the Lakers, the 76ers, or the Warriors, Russell memorably defeated him each time they faced off in the playoffs. That is, all but one season: 1966–67.

Chamberlain’s extraordinary abilities continue to astound people. When coach Frank McGuire realized his squad didn’t have enough quality to compete at the highest level, he allowed Chamberlain run wild, and he scored 50.4 points per game in 1961–62.

You can see how effective that pattern was for Philadelphia in 1966–67 in this video, as Chamberlain’s squad defeated Russell’s Boston for the one and only time.YouTube Gold: The First Championship Season of Wilt Chamberlain
