Tottenham are hoping to have James Maddison available for this weekend’s Premier League match against Liverpool.
Tottenham midfielder James Maddison is set to face Liverpool on Saturday evening, despite initial fears that he suffered an injury in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
According to the Times, the midfielder has returned to training and will be fit to face Jurgen Klopp‘s in-form Liverpool team as they try to put their unbeaten start to the Premier League season to the test.
Maddison has been a revelation since moving from Leicester to Seven Sisters as Ange Postecoglou attempts to restore the club to the top of the Premier League.
They have won four and drawn two of their first six league games, and Maddison has four assists and two goals in that time, with Postecoglou always quick to highlight the transformative influence he’s had on the club.
“In terms of the way we want to play and the football team we want to be, we have to have creative players who can do things through their own imagination and ability,” the Spurs manager recently told TNT Sports.
“Because so much of today’s football is structured, having circuit-breakers in there [is important].” Sometimes it’s people with special powers, such as speed or strength, or it’s people like Madders [Maddison] who see things that others don’t.
“For me having players like that in your team can make you an effective attacking force.”
Liverpool are also unbeaten, having recovered from behind to defeat Leicester City in the league, and their excellent start to the season has continued in the Cup game.
