Blackburn Rovers have entered the transfer market for a Leeds United player

The Ewood Park club is searching for a centre back to join their ranks.

Blackburn Rovers have joined the competition to recruit Leeds United centre back Charlie Cresswell.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, such a transaction could result in Hayden Carter leaving Ewood Park during the January transfer window.

Cresswell is gaining interest despite a lack of playing time at Leeds.
Cresswell, who spent last season on loan in the Championship with Millwall, has struggled for game time since returning to Leeds in the summer.

During the current season, the 21-year-old has made just four league appearances for Daniel Farke‘s side.

That appears to have sparked a lot of interest in the defender from other clubs in the run-up to the January transfer window.

Several teams, notably rival Championship clubs Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town, have lately been linked with a transfer for Cresswell.

Now, it appears that Ewood Park could be another potential destination for the centre back when the market reopens at the end of the year.

Cresswell will be moved in January by Blackburn

According to Nixon’s most recent update, Blackburn has entered the competition to sign Cresswell in the January window.

Rovers are said to be competing with Middlesbrough and Ipswich for the 21-year-old’s services.

Despite the fact that the Ewood Park club is reportedly in the market for another centre defender in the form of Crewe Alexandra‘s Connor O’Riordan.

As a result, it is speculated that Rovers’ pursuit of Cresswell may imply that the club is willing to cash in on Hayden Carter in January, with the centre back attracting interest from elsewhere this season.

As things stand, Blackburn, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich are all said to be interested in signing Cresswell on loan in January.

However, it is also mentioned that cash offers for the centre back could be made if he is available for the right price.

That, of course, means the Whites will be in a great position to negotiate any offers for the centre back that may come in during the month of January.

Blackburn’s push for the play-offs is failing.
After missing out on a position in the Championship play-offs on the penultimate day of last season, Blackburn’s bid for a top-six finish this season has recently struck some major stumbling blocks.

Jon Dahl Tomasson‘s squad has lost six of their previous seven games, dropping them to 15th in the Championship league, eight points off the play-offs and ten clear of the relegation zone.

Rovers are back in action on New Year’s Day, hosting Rotherham United at Ewood Park.

Cresswell might be an asset to Blackburn.

The recruitment of Cresswell appears to be a wise one for Blackburn to make in January.

Rovers’ defence has been a huge issue this season, with Tomasson’s team conceding the second most goals in the Championship (46) since the start of the season.

As a result, they may need to reinforce their backline in January, and Cresswell may assist them do so while perhaps offering a useful extra goal threat at the other end of the game, based on his form at Millwall last season.

Given that there have been questions about whether Tomasson is getting the support he deserves at Ewood Park, beating those other teams to the signing of Cresswell would be a statement for Blackburn to send out, so this feels like a deal worth pursuing.
