Blackburn Rovers have filed a loan bid to bring Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United to Ewood Park in the January transfer window, with Preston and Hull also interested in signing the striker in the coming weeks.
Gelhardt, 21, is battling for playing time. He played five minutes in Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Coventry, but that was his only appearance in the club’s last 17 Championship games. He’s only served on the team nine times.
He requires a loan. That is, despite rumours that he is set to stay, with Daniel Farke anxious to keep him as cover at Leeds. He is seated in the same row as Joel Piroe, Georgie Rutter, Patrick Bamford, and Mateo Joseph.
According to the current report, Leeds will let Gelhardt depart if they are assured that the striker will play regularly. Alan Nixon announced on his Patreon page that Blackburn has made a bid.
Gelhardt, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland, has received a loan offer from Jon Tomasson‘s side. However, Boxing Day opponents Preston are also interested, as are play-off contenders Hull.
Leeds striker Joe Gelhardt is on loan at Blackburn Rovers.
A move to Blackburn, Preston, or Hull, all of which have a slim possibility of breaking into the top six in the second half of the season, would be a good move. All three clubs play a high-quality brand of football.
It remains to be seen whether Leeds will let Gelhardt to leave, and it is possible that Leeds will wait until the FA Cup encounter against Peterborough United before releasing him – and then see how he performs in that match.
He is anticipated to be on the bench when Leeds face Preston at Deepdale on Boxing Day, as Luke Ayling, Sam Byram, Jaidon Anthony, and Jamie Shackleton are all expected to be absent.
