Curtis Jones of Liverpool’s appeal was denied, and the midfielder will miss three games.

Liverpool’s appeal against Curtis Jones’ red card against Tottenham has been rejected, and the midfielder will now be out of the Premier League until November.

After catching Tottenham player Yves Bissouma on the shin, the 22-year-old was issued a yellow card by referee Simon Hooper in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat.

However, VAR referred Hooper to the pitch-side monitor to review the challenge and raised the punishment to a red card.

Liverpool felt they had scored soon after, but the goal was mistakenly ruled out for offside, with PGMOL releasing the audio on Tuesday evening.

The Merseysiders went on to lose the match as Joel Matip scored a stoppage-time own goal, and Diogo Jota was also sent off for two bookable offences as the visitors finished with nine men.

‘Curtis steps his foot on the ball and rolls the legs,’ said Jurgen Klopp after Jones’ dismissal.

‘Whatever you want to do with it. It wasn’t an awful hit. He trod on the ball. He takes a full throttle step on the ball and then goes over it.’

Liverpool filed an appeal against the red card on Monday, but it was denied, and the Reds confirmed he will serve a three-match suspension.

‘Curtis Jones is poised to face a three-match Premier League punishment after an appeal to overturn the red card he got at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday was unsuccessful,’ read a statement on Tuesday evening.

‘In the 26th minute of the match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the midfielder was issued a yellow card for a challenge on Yves Bissouma.

However, after VAR intervention, that was upgraded to a straight red.

Jones will now be ineligible for the Reds’ games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, and Nottingham Forest later this month.

Diogo Jota, who was sent off for two yellow cards, will also serve a one-match suspension, putting him out of Sunday’s trip to the American Express Community Stadium.’

Jones will be allowed to play in the Europa League against Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse, but will not be able to return to Premier League action until Liverpool visits Luton Town on November 5.
