Dan James has revealed that he is delighted to be back at Leeds United after a loan move to Fulham, despite a “tricky start” to his Elland Road return.
Jesse Marsch loaned the Welsh international to Craven Cottage at the start of last season, when he struggled to find regular action in Marco Silva‘s side, making only 23 appearances for Fulham as his parent club was demoted to the Championship.
While many players left Elland Road following the club’s relegation to England‘s second division, James chose to stay and has impressed in the early stages of the season, registering five goal contributions in only seven starts, and he has said he is glad to be back.
According to PA Sports (14 October), he stated, “It’s great to be back.” I just wanted to play and prove that I was there to stay and work hard as soon as I went back in the summer. We had a difficult start, but we’ve had a terrific run of games and we just have to keep going.
“It’s always more difficult when you haven’t played many minutes, not just physically but also mentally.” You need to get into a gaming rhythm, which I’ve found at Leeds. “I’m feeling fit and ready, and when that happens, everything just falls into place.”
Rhythm
This Leeds United side appears to have found its groove in the final few weeks before the international break, especially in attack, where they looked to pose a threat every time they ventured forward in a manner that had Championship defences worried.
James, in particular, has been brilliant in the first quarter of the season and has been one of Farke‘s most dangerous threats, with his explosive pace combined with his crossing ability allowing him to generate an impressive 21 opportunities for his teammates [Fotmob].
The key now for both Leeds and James is to keep their foot on the accelerator, because if they keep playing like this, there will be very nothing stopping them from returning to the Premier League at the first attempt, but things can change rapidly in the Championship.
The Whites were nowhere near their best against Southampton, and Russell Martin‘s team picked them apart with remarkable ease. Even against Bristol City, although Farke‘s side was dominant, the Robins managed a few bright moments.
Hopefully, James and the rest of his teammates will be able to return from international duty without injury and continue to climb the table in the following weeks.
