Director says Euro giants ‘had been trying’ to sign Tottenham ace for a while

Tottenham Hotspur recruited Argentina striker Alejo Veliz at the beginning of the season.

Before joining the Premier League club, the 20-year-old striker was highly regarded in South America and was wanted by a number of clubs.

Sevilla director Victor Orta has disclosed that the Spanish club has been keeping an eye on the outstanding young attacker for some time and has attempted to sign him.

Véliz is a striker that we have been trying to get for a while,” he remarked on the club’s official website. “We competed against some of Europe’s best teams throughout the summer. When those players move on to one of the big teams, we keep an eye on them to see how they develop.

“In the final week of the transfer window, we learned that Véliz could be an option and that they would be able to recover from his injury within a week and we went for the signing.”

The striker eventually joined the Spanish club on loan during the January transfer window, and he will continue to develop with regular first-team action in La Liga.

Veliz is a wonderful prospect with a bright future ahead of him, and he has to play more frequently to realise his full potential. Sitting on the bench at Tottenham would not have helped him, and the loan move should benefit all parties.

Sevilla needed more quality and depth in their attack, and the 20-year-old is anticipated to provide more cutting edge in the final third. Despite his young age, the Argentine striker have the technical abilities to succeed in the Spanish league, and Tottenham will hope that he can return to the club as a better player in the summer.

It is no secret that the starting position as a centre forward is up for grabs at Tottenham, and Veliz will undoubtedly want to force his way into the starting lineup next season.
