The Lilywhites manager is trying to become the first Spurs manager since Peter Shreeves, who triumphed at Highbury on New Year’s Day in 1985, to record an away win in his first North London derby.

Postecoglou has been preparing for the game despite winger Ivan Perisic’s late injury, which has put him out of not only the game, but for the rest of the season. However, Spurs manager  believes his club will be ready for the challenge: “From my perspective, I have often said that I don’t set up my teams to play football that is enjoyable to watch.”

“I organised my team to play winning football. You must believe in it in the face of all odds and under all conditions.

“There are always twhaks because the opposition forces you to adjust certain parts of your game, but the underlying principles of the kind of team we want to be, no, I won’t shy away from it now because we’re facing a good team.”

“We have to go out there and challenge ourselves to play the football we’ve been playing so far against one of the teams that will be challenging for the title.”

Arsenal will try to win three straight league games against Tottenham for the first time since a five-game winning streak between 1987 and 1989. Both sides are unbeaten in this meeting for the first time since 1990, when they drew 0-0 at Highbury in the third game of the season.

“Winning always helps and maintains the spirit in the right place, and this game does not need any motivation,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said of the game. It is the most important game of the season.
