Gary Neville gives a new Scott McTominay verdict amid West Ham United speculation.

Gary Neville has accused Manchester United of “managing” Scott McTominay out of the club because Eric ten Hag does not want the West Ham United target.

On Sky Sports’ coverage of Manchester United vs. Tottenham on August 19, Neville stated that while Manchester United’s midfield needed strengthening, McTominay was not the solution. The Scotsman has been linked with a move to the London Stadium, with SixFootTwo stating (11 August) that the Hammers could yet make a move for McTominay despite making many midfield acquisitions already this summer.

According to the Scottish Sun, Neville stated on Sky Sports: “What’s clear is that Manchester United’s midfield requires reinforcement.”Ten Hag wants a number six to play alongside Casemiro, and the club is currently unable to get players out to fund that.If they look at the first two weeks, they must fund it or there will be a major issue.” What is evident is that Ten Hag does not want to return to Scott McTominay’s role.

With Fernandes on the right, the midfield looks disjointed, and the front three appears incapable of working together.Does he return to McTominay?” Ten Hag has made five substitutes but has yet to deploy him. He nearly seems to be managing him out of the club.

With McTominay obviously undesired at Old Trafford, West Ham may have a chance to sign him. While The Athletic reported on August 8 that ten Hag preferred to maintain the Scotland international, his stance appears to have shifted.

According to The Athletic (8 August), the Hammers had a £30 million bid rejected by the Red Devils earlier in the window, demonstrating how much they value what he can contribute to the team.

While he is a classic David Moyes player, the Hammers’ major strengthening of their midfield, including the arrivals of James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, may indicate that the boat has already gone for McTominay to move to East London.

If Lucas Paqueta joins Manchester City, a door could open for the 26-year-old to join his countryman Moyes at West Ham. Furthermore, despite apparent cooling interest in McTominay, the Hammers are still hunting for midfield reinforcements.

According to David Ornstein (19 August), the Irons had a deal for Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus rejected. If this deal falls through, McTominay could be the solution. If Neville’s comments are any indication, McTominay’s Manchester United career may be over.

In other West Ham news, a club target is expected to get a medical ahead of a £17 million deal.
