The Old Trafford stadium for Manchester United is in dire need of renovation and investment
In light of the current renovation of Real Madrid’s illustrious Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Gary Neville made his most recent appeal to Joel and Avram Glazer to sell Manchester United.
The Spanish team shared a brief video on Monday morning that gave viewers a glimpse into the stadium’s ongoing building projects. The Bernabeu will undergo a modernization project that Madrid unveiled in 2019. The renovation will include a retractable roof, a 360-degree video scoreboard, and a skin made of steel bands that will allow for image illumination and projection on the stadium’s outer surface.
Madrid hopes the development will be finished in time for the start of the upcoming season after securing a €225 million loan to help finance it last December. In order to complete the work in time for the stadium’s 75th anniversary, it was originally anticipated that it would be done by December of this year.
The Bernabeu revamp will also result in a minor increase in the stadium’s capacity, with the renovations bringing the capacity closer to 85,000. It will be one of Europe’s newest and most gleaming venues once it is finished.
Former United captain Neville issued a further warning to the Glazer family, who have recently failed to provide Old Trafford with adequate finance, in response to the release of the film. Both the stadium and the club’s training facility in Carrington require urgent modernization.
Neville tweeted the video Madrid had posted on Twitter, quoting it: “To Avram and Joel. Stop putting it off and sell right away.”
After United’s 4-0 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium earlier this month, Neville went on an attention-grabbing tirade against the Glazers. He detailed their recent faults as club owners and criticized the existing condition of Old Trafford in relation to other stadiums.

“They took over £24 million from the club two months ago, and now they have a run-down, rotting stadium that, to be fair, is only second-rate compared to when it was the best in the world 15 to 20 years ago. You have a football team where the players are clueless.
Neville and colleague Sky Sports commentator Jamie Redknapp got into a fight during his scathing outburst earlier this summer. Neville used Tottenham Hotspur as an example to contrast United’s facilities with one of Redknapp’s past teams.
Neville went on to say “The bar is filthy. Daniel Levy has created the best stadium in the world, the best training facility in the nation, a fantastic sporting director in Fabio Paratici, and the most incredible stadium in the world that people want to play in.
