Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver believes the “situation” of wantaway striker Luke Armstrong can yet be “resolved.”
At 11.15 p.m. on Friday, the Sulphurites confirmed that last season’s 16-goal top-scorer had completed a permanent move to League Two rivals Wrexham for an unknown amount, reputedly in the area of £500,000.
However, an EFL statement issued on Saturday noon stated that Armstrong could not be registered as a Red Dragons player “due to the paperwork not being submitted by the necessary deadline.”
As a result, he is still a Harrogate player for the time being, subject to Wrexham’s future appeal.
“I’m not sure if there’s anything else to sort out,” Weaver told the Harrogate Advertiser after his team’s 1-0 home defeat to Barrow.”I heard just before I came onto the pitch today that there may be an appeal – but that is coming from Wrexham’s end.”
“Hopefully, that will resolve the situation and allow everyone to benefit.”
When asked if Armstrong would be considered for selection if Wrexham’s appeal failed, Weaver said, “I think it’s far too early and far too raw to be discussing it right now, to be honest.”In an interview with BBC Radio York, the Town manager said, “I’m not sure what happened late last night.”
“We were here for 15 hours yesterday trying to get people in while also trying to get the best deal for the club and move Luke.”I spoke with Phil Parkinson [Wrexham’s manager] this morning, and he was obviously disappointed that it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but that’s why we’ll work to resolve it.
While Armstrong is still out, Town did complete two incoming deals on deadline day, signing striker Josh March on a permanent contract from Stevenage and signing Middlesbrough attacker Jeremy Sivi on loan.
