‘I have nothing against Ipswich.’ Tim Sherwood delivers a bold Leeds United message live on the radio

Leeds United added some real spice to the Championship promotion race when they defeated leaders Leicester City last Friday, breaking open the pressure door.

Only a few weeks ago, many believed that there was only one automatic berth available, with Leeds, Ipswich Town, and Southampton vying for it, but that is no longer the case!

The Stupidest League in World Football  Having said that, Leicester maintain a six-point lead over Daniel Farke’s side, who are level on points with newly promoted Ipswich in third.

When asked who he would like to see in the Premier League next season, Tim Sherwood made it clear that he wants Leeds back in the big league, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (29/02/24 at 9:55 am).

The former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager continued, “I have nothing against Ipswich,” and praised Kieran McKenna’s performance at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys were only in England’s third division last season, but now they compete with three recently demoted Premier League teams for a place among the elite.

One thing is certain: despite a few blips here and there, they are not backing down, and those from Yorkshire face a tough struggle.

They, like the Foxes and Southampton, are looking for an immediate comeback, and Tim Sherwood is eager to see it happen.

Who will earn promotion to the Premier League?

“Both very well supported,” Sherwood observed of Leeds United and Ipswich Town. “But Leeds is one of my favourite grounds to visit. I’ve always enjoyed playing there.

“It’s Elland Road, not Portman Road. I played at Portman Road but never with Norwich, so it would have been a valuable experience.

“I just think about Leeds, really. I want them returned. I want them back in the Premier League. I’ve got nothing against Ipswich. Kieran McKenna has done an excellent job, but if I had to pick one, Elland Road. “I want that back.”

Despite gaining an early lead, Conor Gallagher delivered the sucker punch that sent Farke’s team crashing out in the waning stages of the game.  Many would claim that it was undeserved given the Championship side was the superior team, particularly in the second half.

However, if Leeds can maintain this level of performance throughout their promotion campaign, there is no reason why they should not face Chelsea at Elland Road and Stamford Bridge next season.
