Leeds United face Norwich City at Elland Road on Thursday night in the second leg of their semi-final play-off match, although the Whites will be missing one “invaluable” man.
The Whites will be full of confidence heading into tonight’s second leg after avoiding loss at Carrow Road and keeping a clean sheet for the first time in their previous eight games.
Leeds will be strong favourites, thanks to home advantage, having defeated Norwich both at home and away in the regular season, and having the Championship’s second-best home record in 2023-24.
But this is the play-offs, and as history has shown, anything can happen when the games are under such high strain. Nothing would be better for Leeds than scoring early and getting the crowd on their side.
However, they will be missing one key player, according to Leeds Live, who have revealed the squad that will face Norwich at Elland Road on Thursday night. The side includes Dan James and Connor Roberts.
Patrick Bamford is missing from Leeds’ squad to face Norwich.
Leeds Live has revealed the Leeds team that Daniel Farke will choose ahead of Thursday night’s game, with Patrick Bamford missing out due to a knee injury.
The former England striker sustained the injury in a 4-3 victory over Middlesbrough, and he has missed the previous three games against QPR, Southampton, and the first leg.
Instead, Farke will have Georginio Rutter, Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph, and Joe Gelhardt as alternatives at the top. Of course, Pascal Struijk and Stuart Dallas will be out due to injuries.
Bamford’s absence will be a major blow for Leeds against Norwich.
The striker’s absence is a significant blow to Farke and Leeds, as it has demonstrated how essential he is to this Leeds team, particularly his ability to hold the ball up and dominate two defenders, creating space.
When Bamford plays, Willy Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville have more room to work their magic. Despite Bamford’s criticism, Jon Newsome recently characterised him as “invaluable”.
It will be interesting to observe how Farke starts at the top, whether with Piroe, Joseph, or with Rutter. If he does the latter, it will be up for question whether Archie Gray remains in the tenth position.
