Celtic has rejected Leeds United’s bid for midfielder Matt O’Riley.
According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic are ‘bracing themselves’ for future proposals for the 22-year-old in the coming days after an initial deal from Leeds was rejected.
Leeds is thought to be ‘leading the chase’ to sign O’Riley before the deadline on Friday, however Celtic are still very keen on retaining him in Glasgow.
Bologna‘s offer for O’Riley was also turned down last week; further bids expected in the ‘coming 72 hours’ as Brendan Rodgers fights to keep his star player.
O’Riley has been perhaps Celtic‘s best player in a stuttering start to the season, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in three league appearances.
Leeds is leading the race for O’Riley after an offer is rejected.
Leeds‘ interest in O’Riley was initially reported by Sky Sports yesterday night, with the Whites likely to compete with Southampton.
He is the most recent in a long line of midfielders linked with a move to Elland Road as Daniel Farke tries to add additional number eight and ten to his squad.
According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, an old strong opponent of O’Riley’s, is ‘on the verge of a move’ to Leeds.
A trade for Bayer Leverkusen‘s Nadiem Amiri has fallen through, therefore Lewis O’Brien and Ao Tanaka have been suggested as prospective possibilities.
If Leeds were to sign O’Riley, it would be a big coup, but Celtic will not be selling him cheaply.
