Leeds United are encouraged to extend the contract of a ‘integral’ Elland Road player whose deal ends in 2024.

Leeds United lost a large number of players over the summer, but several crucial personnel remained at Elland Road.

Leeds United are aiming to return to the Premier League next season after being relegated at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The headache only grew worse once the club was relegated to the Championship and was preparing for a summer exodus. Players such as Rodrigo and

left the club in quest of better opportunities. The team lost 16 players due to contract expirations and loan movements, but they were able to sign nine new players.

Leeds are presently fifth in the Championship table, having collected 19 points from 11 games. They are still a long way behind leaders Leicester City, who have 30 points, but a chance in the play-offs is all Daniel Farke and his club need to get promotion.

However, there is much more to consider than their performances this season. As things stand, as many as ten players might leave Elland Road for free next summer when their contracts expire. Luke Ayling is on that list, and former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has pushed his old club to sign him beyond this season.

“It would be fantastic to see Ayling rewarded with a new contract for his service to the club,” he told the newspaper. “The way he’s played in recent years, his leadership qualities that he still possesses in the locker room.” That would be beneficial in the long run. It would be amazing if the club rewarded him with a new deal.

“But the question for him on a personal level is whether he wants to move on to greener pastures at this point in his career.” Is there something else he wants to do?”
