Leeds United are interested in signing Luton Town left-back Ryan Giles during the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT
According to the broadcaster’s live transfer blog [18 January, 15:55], the Whites are among the numerous Championship clubs interested.
It is reported that Luton are open to a permanent exit for Giles, or perhaps a loan with an obligation to buy in the summer, despite multiple starts in the Premier League this season.
It’s no secret that Leeds and Daniel Farke are looking for new full-backs, with Luke Ayling departing on loan and Djed Spence returning to Tottenham.
Due to injuries to Junior Firpo and Sam Byram this season, the Whites have limited choices at Elland Road. With loan spaces available, it is possible that money may be spent, although this may not happen quickly.
Given Giles‘ time on the pitch thus far, it would be prudent to sign off on a loan deal with the possibility of a buyout.
A move to Elland Road would be huge, regardless of whether he is currently a Premier League player, but that may all change at the conclusion of the season.
Leeds need a left-back; while Byram and Firpo have performed well at times this season, they are not consistent enough to play every week right now.
Perhaps a right-side alternative would be more useful than Giles right now, but signing the former Wolves player does not guarantee that he will be the only acquisition.
Let’s hope we have a busy two weeks at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, a billionaire-owned club is preparing to make a “big cash” offer to sign a Whites outcast this month.
