Leeds United are still interested in signing Gus Hamer; however Coventry are demanding a big fee.

Leeds United are still interested in signing Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer, but the Sky Blues are demanding a large fee, according to Phil Hay.

According to the Athletic journalist, Leeds’ interest in Hamer remains strong, albeit the transfer may be tough because to the hefty asking price.

Leeds may be able to sign Hamer if they are given a £20 million transfer war chest from Tyler Adams’ projected move to Chelsea, as has been claimed recently [The Athletic, 7 August].

This would be an excellent bargain for Leeds.

The midfielder is largely regarded as one of the greatest in the Championship, with his efforts last season assisting Coventry to reach the playoff final, where he scored, although they were defeated by Luton Town.

When compared to other players in his position, Hamer’s stats from last season are amazing, with the midfielder rating in the 95th percentile or higher for total shots, non-penalty xG, assists, projected assists, and shot-creating actions all per 90 minutes [FBref].

The midfielder’s abilities are not restricted to attacking the opposition’s box; he also placed in the 86th percentile for tackles last season, completing an average of 2.8 per 90 minutes in the league.

While Hamer is not a direct substitute for Adams (he plays in a far more advanced role), he would help improve Leeds‘ midfield in the absence of their current central star.

The Premier League has been said to be interested in signing Hamer this summer, so if Leeds can close a deal, it will be a wonderful coup for the Yorkshire club.
