After finalising agreements for Ethan Ampadu and Karl Darlow, journalist Beren Cross claims that Leeds United is now aggressively looking to sign a new striker this summer.
In a Q&A session on Leeds Live, the journalist said that, from what he can tell, the club is actively looking for a new striker while also planning to keep Patrick Bamford and Georginio Rutter.
This summer, Leeds has been linked with a deal for 19-goal Swansea City striker Joel Piroe following a report from Last Word On Sports [29 July] revealed that only Southampton and Leeds remain in the running for his services.
Cross responded in the Q&A [03 August, 16:06] when asked if Leeds was actively looking for a striker: “Yes, as I understand it, they are.”
Positive transfer rumours are usually appreciated.
Although it has been generally believed that Leeds will keep both Bamford and Rutter for this season, the team still feels the need for reinforcements.
The fact that both Leeds strikers were injured during the team’s victory over Hearts in a preseason friendly indicated that this was the right move. According to Farke [via Leeds Live], Bamford is dealing with a possible hamstring injury, while Rutter is dealing with a different muscular issue.
Both of these players have unknown comeback dates, which could force Daniel Farke’s team to open the season with Joe Gelhardt or Mateo Joseph up front. This has increased the importance of finding a new striker.
Piroe is not the only striker associated with Elland Road this summer; the Daily Mail reported on August 1 that Leeds and West Brom were in a bidding war for the services of a former Cardiff City loanee.
This needs to take the top spot.
