Leeds United won’t be recruiting Kenny McLean.

Norwich City manager David Wagner has stated that Kenny McLean will not join Leeds United this summer.

This is putting an end to any talk about Daniel Farke and him reuniting at Elland Road.

The Whites had a £4 million bid for the Scotland international rejected by the Canaries [Sky Sports, 29 August], with the midfielder considered as a potential contender to assist fill the vacuum left by Tyler Adams’ departure.

McLean was left out of Norwich City‘s Carabao Cup triumph against Bristol City on Tuesday (29 August), despite having played every minute for Wagner‘s side in the Championship so far this season, but the boss was keen to put any speculation over his future to rest.

Following his victory, he told the PinkUn YouTube channel (August 29): “When I can deny anything, it is Kenny McLean will not go to Leeds.” We rested them, notably Kenny and Gunny (Angus Gunn), who are travelling with Scotland next week.”

Wagner also stated that neither his nor Norwich’s attitude on McLean‘s availability to the Whites this summer will change.

Now onto the next

Leeds United are expected to be busy between now and the conclusion of the transfer season, putting the finishing touches on their team in the goal of finally settling ahead of the 1 September deadline after a turbulent summer of ins and outs.

While McLean would have been a wonderful addition to the squad at Elland Road and is well known to Farke from their time together at Carrow Road, the loss of the 31-year-old would not be the most significant, if they can bring in another new midfielder.

Norwich have their own ambitions of returning to the Premier League this season and have started the season strongly, being unbeaten so far this season, so they were never going to let one of their key players leave for a relegation competitor.

The Whites certainly appear to be weak in the centre of the park, with an early dependence on 17-year-old Archie Grey to perform owing to a lack of options, but with multiple stories tying United to a variety of midfielders, Farke and those above him are working hard to locate a fresh option.
