Manchester United is getting closer to a deal for Martin Dubravka.

Newcastle is set to make a decision today on United’s official loan bid with a £5 million buy option

Manchester United appears to be on the rise after four Premier League games. Two consecutive victories have more than compensated for the losses in the first two games.

With the impending arrival of Ajax right-winger Antony, Erik ten Hag is getting closer to his ideal squad. With only a few days left, there are still positions in which United needs to improve.

The goalkeeping department is one of the key areas where the club is looking for reinforcements. Following Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest, United are down to just two senior keepers: David de Gea and Tom Heaton.

And it is safe to say that De Gea’s long-term future as Manchester United’s number one is in jeopardy. While his shot-stopping abilities were never in doubt, it is his ability with the ball and his proclivity for not crossing the goal line that has let him down this season.

Ten Hag is a big fan of playing out from the back, and he wants his keeper to be good with the ball and be able to initiate attacks while also being able to come out of his line and play sweeper-keeper so the team can keep a high line.

And De Gea is not exactly known for these qualities, having conceded seven times in four games, including two disastrous errors.

Dubravka, United’s next manager, had a shortlist of five shot-stoppers that included Yann Sommer, Tim Krul, Daniel Bachmann, Odysseas Vlachodimos, and Kevin Trapp.

Trapp turned down the opportunity to join Manchester United, and the Red Devils are now actively pursuing Martin Dubravka of Newcastle United. Personal terms have already been agreed upon with the Slovak, who wishes to join United.

In his exclusive Caught Offside column, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that United have already lodged a bid for the Slovakian international, and the Magpies are expected to discuss the offer today.

“Manchester United made an official bid over the weekend: loan with a £5 million buy option, Newcastle wants a permanent deal, so it will be discussed again on Monday,” the Italian wrote.

Dubravka recently lost his starting spot to Nick Pope and is looking for a new challenge. He believes he can push United’s Spanish goalkeeper all the way. With Henderson impressing at Forest, a loan arrangement makes sense.
