‘Massive news,’ a pundit says of the expected return of a key Spurs figure.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield choices would be ‘frightening’ whenever Rodrigo Bentancur returns to the squad.

Bentancur has been out since February after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Tottenham‘s 4-1 defeat at Leicester City, during which Tottenham‘s fortunes also took a downward spiral, finishing eighth in the Premier League table and missing out on European qualification for the first time in over a decade.

Ange Postecoglou, the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, has already changed his first-choice midfield combination, with Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma taking the place of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who have both had to wait for game time in recent weeks.

The Uruguayan has already been observed taking part in first team training, and Postecoglou indicated last month that the end may be in sight as he nears his return, but emphasised that they must proceed with caution.

“Rehab is the most difficult part,” he told Football.London. Talk to any player; it’s not just the work, but the lone component of it. He was buzzing yesterday, but that is a good thing. He has a lot of work to do, and it’s terrific to have him involved. Of course, he was disappointed when we had to pull him out after half an hour.”

Many will be hoping for a quick recovery, but with such a catastrophic injury, there may still be a long road ahead, but the finish is in sight.”

Rodrigo Bentancur is set to make his Spurs comeback.
With Bissouma and Sarr set to represent Mali and Senegal, respectively, at AFCON in January, Tottenham will undoubtedly turn to Bentancur.

“It’s massive news,” Agbonlahor said of Bentancur’s comeback, according to Football Insider.

“It’s just a different option for Postecoglou.” But I was watching this guy last season and thinking: ‘This guy has got it all’.

“He can play in any position in the midfield.” He can play deep and go further forward.

“Some of the runs he was making in behind were fantastic – and he’s also quick.”

Postecoglou has been playing Sarr in there, and I believe he’ll replace Sarr.”

“Then there’s Bissouma, Bentancur, and Maddison in midfield.” It’s terrifying.”

Bentancur was such a crucial part of Tottenham’s team before his injury, and it is critical that he not be rushed back before he is physically and emotionally ready, or the repercussions might be terrible.

A fit and ready Bentancur in the Postecoglou setup with Yves Bissouma is an exciting proposition.
