AS Roma have joined the race for Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto.
This was reported by La Roma, who said contact had been made between Gnonto representatives and coach Tiago Pinto in the last few hours.
Pinto is said to have started talks with Mr. Gnonto‘s representatives to “understand the feasibility of the operation,” but that is said to be difficult at this point.
Given the financial woes this summer, Roma would be interested in signing the Italian international on a 12-month loan deal with an option to buy.
Jose Mourinho‘s side have already loaned two Leeds players during this period, with Diego Llorente and Rasmus Christensen moving to the Italian capital. Roma joins race for Leeds winger Gnonto
Gnonto is determined to leave Leeds this summer after Leeds were relegated in May, but new owners San Francisco 49ers Enterprises are adamant they will not be for sale.
According to Sky Sports, Everton have already turned down four offers from the Whites, the last of which was worth £25million.
Given figures like these, it would be almost impossible for Roma to sign Gnonto on a permanent basis, which is why a loan deal is being discussed.
A loan move to Leeds would be the worst deal imaginable given the way Gnonto tried to make the move happen.
The prospect of him returning to Leeds after a refusal to play for 12 months doesn’t bode well for fans, so the only solutions that come to mind are paying a hefty transfer fee and leaving outright or staying at Elland Street. Either
