Tottenham draughts a Clement Lenglet signing proposal

Clement Lenglet, a 28-year-old French defender now playing for Barcelona, is still a target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

According to a report from the Spanish magazine SPORT, Barcelona and Tottenham have set a meeting to talk about the transfer of Clement Lenglet before their upcoming friendly game.

Last year, the 28-year-old Frenchman was on loan at Tottenham, and this summer, the North London club is ready to make the deal permanent. The defender, 28, moved from Sevilla to Barcelona for almost €35 million, but he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a crucial member of the team.

His return to Tottenham would be great as he has to go on to get consistent playing time. Lenglet would be a good alternative for the north London giants to consider for the upcoming season as they need to add defensive depth. According to reports, the 28-year-old’s top priority is to join them.

From his experience at Tottenham the previous season, he is already quite familiar with the team and should be able to contribute right away. This summer, a number of Tottenham defenders have been mentioned in connection with possible transfers. They will thus need to effectively replace these players.

Both Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg and Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers are anticipated to be acquired by Spurs. Lenglet may be the third centre back to sign with the team before the window closes this summer.

The 28-year-old defender is reportedly valued at €15 million, and it is unknown if Tottenham will make the necessary payments. For almost €8 million, the North London team is seeking to recruit him.

Despite not having any intentions for the 28-year-old defender, Barcelona is under pressure to sell him. In order to register the next football players as well, they must also adhere to Financial Fair Play standards.

Tottenham is undoubtedly in a position of power in this situation. It is reasonable to believe that they will be able to sign the defender this summer for a bargain price. Lenglet was recently excluded from the preseason training so that he could plan his escape from the team. Therefore, it is evident that Barcelona does not want him to play for the team the next year.
