TOTTENHAM HAS TOLD £85K-WEEK STAR HE CAN PLAY MIDFIELD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3 YEARS.

Alasdair Gold has indicated that Tottenham Hotspur player Eric Dier might return to the team as a ‘number six’.

This season, the 29-year-old has fallen out of favour under Ange Postecoglou, and he hasn’t been seen in Tottenham colours since the final pre-season game against Barcelona.

However, Football London journalist Gold said on his own YouTube channel that Eric Dier, who has previously played in midfield, right back, and centre back for Spurs, could be utilised in the middle of the pitch again.

Dier last played in midfield against Aston Villa in 2020, and since then, he has mostly played at centre-back, and not particularly well, according to many of his own fans.

The 29-year-old’s future at Hotspur Way is undeniably uncertain, as details of a recent meeting with Daniel Levy have emerged.

Despite speculation that Dier would leave during the summer transfer window of 2023, he stayed, with Tottenham-based journalist Gold offering his thoughts on the player.

“Eric Dier doesn’t suit the Postecoglou system as well as he thinks he does,” Gold remarked. “He doesn’t have the speed for that high line.” When the balls are thrown over his head, he will struggle. He’ll have to change his strategy.

“I’m wondering if there’s a chance he’ll become a number six again.” If Bissouma or Skipp are injured as well.

“I know people are going to despise Eric Dier because they don’t think he’s good enough.” Whether or not that is correct. I believe his ailment played a significant role in his performance last season as well. Is he compatible with Postecglou’s system? No.”

Will Dier leave in January?

Given that Tottenham aren’t in Europe, it’s difficult to see Dier returning to the first team, even in midfield.

The only solution is for a few players to enter the therapy room. But if the £85k-a-week star (Spotrac) is still struggling in January, you have to wonder how long he will stay.

Dier played for England last season and isn’t even being considered by Gareth Southgate for Euro 2024, so that must be on the player’s mind.
