Barry Bannan says he would prefer to see Ipswich Town win promotion over Leeds United

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has shared the club he would most like to get promoted from Leeds United, Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

Despite Southampton’s mini resurgence recently, it now looks set to be a three-horse race again in the final two weeks of the season following their defeat at Cardiff City on Saturday.

The top three are currently separated by just two points with Leicester top on 91, Leeds in second on 90, and Ipswich sat just outside on 89. That said, the Whites have played a game more than both.

All three sides have seen their form stagnate recently but with Ipswich not in action, Leicester and Leeds were able to put the pressure on with hard-fought wins over West Brom and Middlesbrough respectively.

Leeds’ squad were even swept with illness in the build-up to last night, but they were still able to battle through and secure a massive three points, which clearly meant a lot, as seen with Liam Cooper’s celebration on the bench.

Bannan shares who he’d prefer to win promotion from Ipswich and Leeds Amid the sheer number of twists and turns, this has been one of, if not the best races for automatic promotion ever seen in the Championship.

As such, people from across football have been giving their predictions, with Danny Murphy among those who wants to see Leeds return to the Premier League.

On the other hand, pundits such as Troy Deeney have backed Ipswich to get the job done over Leeds due to the amount of pressure on the Whites.

And speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Wednesday star and former Leeds loanee Bannan has become the latest to wade in on the debate by claiming he would prefer to see Ipswich go up.

He said: “I would like to see Ipswich go up, obviously with them coming up through League One last season, I think they’ve been unbelievable… The three teams that are going for it, no matter who goes up, they all probably deserve it in their own way.

It’s amazing for us to watch.”

Why Leeds could have an advantage over Ipswich.Though it remains a three-horse race, a win over Southampton this evening will almost guarantee Leicester’s spot in the Premier League.

That would leave Leeds and Ipswich competing for second place over the next 12 days, and despite the latter having a game in hand, Daniel Farke’s side could have the advantage.

Leeds have the opportunity to pull four points clear of Ipswich before their next game, which is against QPR 24 hours before the Tractor Boys’ game against Hull City.

A Leeds victory would put immense pressure on Ipswich to produce a strong return from two difficult away games against the Tigers and Coventry City.
