Leeds: A concerning update on Farke’s “combative” star’s injury

Leeds manager has suffered a significant setback to his team…

Leeds United haven’t exactly gotten off to a fast start in the Championship, but a 3-0 win over Millwall in their most recent game suggests that Daniel Farke‘s team are at least finding their feet.

The international break was definitely needed, and it appears to have allowed the former Norwich City manager time to collect himself before dealing with his team’s troubles. It wasn’t always easy at The Den, but the strength of Leeds‘ assault paid off as they grabbed their second win of the season in style.

Despite the win, Farke has confirmed that one of his players would be sidelined for an extended period of time after suffering an injury in the build-up to the Millwall game.

What is the most recent Leeds United injury news?

Elland Road had already been forced to battle without both Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas before suffering another significant injury blow in defence. The absences do not come at a good time, either, with games coming thick and fast, especially around the holidays. In reality, the Whites didn’t need any more bad news on the injury front.

However, as verified by Farke, the elation of Millwall‘s victory was swiftly dampened, with Djed Spence set for an extended period on the sidelines. “Yes, sadly sad news with Spence because Djed has done his lateral ligaments,” Farke told The Nottingham Post. He will be away for several weeks while we await additional evaluation.

“It appears that no surgery is required, but we must await further evaluation.” He will undoubtedly be absent in the next weeks. We’ll have to wait to give you a timeframe on this, but he’ll be away for a few weeks.”

The situation is made worse by the fact that Spence is only on loan from Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road, and the Yorkshire club would have hoped to get a full season out of him before making a permanent move in 2024.

Djed Spence’s season performance thus far?

It’s a big tragedy for Spence, who would have been hoping to start his Leeds career following the international break, having only made one appearance for the club previously.

With nearly 100 Championship outings under his belt and lots of Championship experience, the Spurs loanee might have played a vital role in kickstarting Leeds’ season, who had won just one in their first four games before upsetting Millwall at the weekend. Instead, the full-back will be forced to sit on the bench.

Spence has earned high praise from Ian Wright, who remarked on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, via The Nottingham Post: “I saw him after the game and said ‘listen, my friend.'” You’re on loan from Middlesbrough, and I’m not sure what happened there, because if you can’t get into the Middlesbrough side, I’m not sure what’s wrong, so I need the whole story’.

“However, let me say that was one of the best right back performances I’ve seen in a long time.” It’s been a long time. Reece James and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) are two right-backs who are performing at an incredible level. But I haven’t seen such a belligerent, skilled, swashbuckling performance in a long time.”
