Michael Bridges claims Glen Kamara did not join Leeds United to’make the numbers up’ after the summer signing made his debut against Watford at Elland Road. On Saturday, the former Rangers star took the place of academy graduate Archie Grey in the starting eleven, with goals from Jaidon Anthony, Sam Byram, and Joel Piroe easing the hosts to a 3-0 victory.

Kamara was one of two late midfield arrivals in the summer transfer window, along with, and the duo have had to be patient thus far due to Gray‘s and Ethan Ampadu‘s form. Bridges supported Daniel Farke‘s decision to rotate Grey for the match against the Hornets after a run of three matches in six days, and is looking forward to the competition for a starting berth in the Whites’ engine room.

“Today is the day, and I feel for Archie Grey,” he told Leeds United‘s Matchday Live. Don’t get us wrong: he’s been excellent and is doing his job.

“You don’t want to exhaust the kid.” There are a lot of games in the Championship, and they come thick and fast. He’s been a really excellent player, and I believe the way he’s slotted in alongside Ampadu has been quite impressive.

“With Kamara, another player now has his chance.” He didn’t come from the Rangers just to make up numbers or sit on the bench. Archie is being pushed by him.”

Bridges stated ahead to kickoff, “It’s another chance for Kamara to come in and get his opportunity.” If I’m going by what I’ve seen in previous matches when guys have waited for that opportunity and taken it…Kamara has got to come in because he knows if he’s having a bad game, he’ll be substituted.”
