Leeds United player ratings: Rodon and Gray stand out in a hard-fought QPR victory

All tens for Leeds United at Elland Road following their Championship meeting with Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night, as Crysencio Summerville scored the game’s sole goal.

Leeds United (4-2-3-1)

1 Illan Meslier

A spectator for the evening. Offered a helpful passing option to his centre-backs when they needed it. Sets pulses racing with the lateness of some of his clearances. 6

2 Luke Ayling (c)

Much better than we have seen in a lot of games from the vice-captain this season. Wasn’t especially tested by Ilias Chair, but marauded forward to useful effect too. 7

14 Joe Rodon

Immediate improvement in the defence. Assertive and proactive in coming to meet the loose supply line being sent towards Sinclair Armstrong. 7

21 Pascal Struijk

Much more solid than at the weekend. Saw his level raised by Rodon alongside him. 7

25 Sam Byram

Much more like the Byram we have seen this season. Lyndon Dykes had zero change out of him and he was typically reliable technically and going forward. 7

22 Archie Gray

Very, very good. The odd blind alley, but this was the Gray who spoilt us in August. Combative, read the game expertly, made big tackles, roamed forward and made things happen. 7

4 Ethan Ampadu

Ticked over as he does in the middle. Brought far more control with and without the ball than he managed on Saturday. So calm on the ball. Can either carry it away from danger on the dribble or with 40-yard raking passes into danger. 7

10 Crysencio Summerville

Started like a house on fire, drawing fouls what felt like every 30 seconds. Took his goal well, but went off the boil towards the break and went out of the game in the second half. 6

7 Joel Piroe

Another game where it didn’t stick for the Dutchman. Could not keep hold of the ball when it came to him and failed to find areas for shots at goal. Left wondering again about this experiment with him behind a striker. 5

12 Jaidon Anthony

Bright and went past defenders fairly regularly, but end product not quite there to really hurt the visitors. Should keep his place for the weekend. 6

24 Georginio Rutter

Excellent assist for Summerville and an outstanding key pass into Patrick Bamford in the second half, but a sustained impact was never there from the forward. Didn’t enjoy facing the congested defence. 6

Substitutes

28 Karl Darlow

5 Charlie Cresswell (on for Rutter 90+10min)

Barely had a few seconds on the pitch. N/A

6 Liam Cooper

8 Glen Kamara

9 Patrick Bamford (on for Piroe 65min)

A promising cameo from Bamford. Ran the channels, looked shape enough around the box and got a good shot off to test Asmir Begovic. 6

20 Daniel James (on for Anthony 65min)

Another example of why he may make a better impact player this season. Brought danger off that left side and went close to finding that elusive second goal. 6

27 Ian Poveda (on for Summerville 80min)

A long time since we have seen him. Did not show much in his 10 or so minutes. N/A

30 Joe Gelhardt

44 Ilia Gruev
