Arsenal go to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City in a massive match.

Liverpool, on the other hand, must take care of their own business before the game against Brighton & Hove Albion begins at Anfield.

Many anticipated Liverpool to win this game, but they were stunned early on when Danny Welbeck put the Seagulls ahead.

Luis Diaz pulled Liverpool level, but the two teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.

Liverpool‘s first-half performance was energetic, but perhaps lacked poise and clarity in the final third.

Mohamed Salah squandered a few opportunities, as Liverpool struggled with Brighton‘s counter-attacking ability, particularly down the left side.

One Liverpool player did shine, earning plaudits from Jamie Carragher in the process.

Jamie Carragher discusses Alexis MacAllister.

Alexis MacAllister, a former Brighton player, started in midfield with Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Mac Allister moved from Brighton to Liverpool for £35 million over the summer and has been an integral part of the team this season.

Often seen as an attacking player, Mac Allister has demonstrated his defensive abilities in a number six role this season.

Deployed ahead of Endo against Brighton, Mac Allister was superb in the first-half and picked out some great passes into the attack.

Mac Allister pinged one Mohamed Salah ball over the top which  just couldn’t quite get on the end of, but that pass sparked praise from Jamie Carragher.

The former Reds defender noted (Sky Sports, 2:39pm) that Mac Allister was ‘absolutely outstanding’ in the first half.

Carragher added that Mac Allister was the ‘best player on the pitch’ as he dictated the game from midfield.

Mac Allister has been absolutely outstanding in this first 39 minutes, the best player on the pitch,” said Carragher.

With Liverpool needing three points ahead of City’s clash with Arsenal. Mac Allister would no doubt love a goal against his former club.

The Argentinian has mostly looked to supply teammates in the first half but we know that he has the scope to score stunners as well. With the Seagulls no doubt wary of his threat.
