Leeds 19-year-old suffers hamstring injury; will be out ‘for a couple of weeks’.

According to the trusted Twitter feed LUFC Youth, Leeds United playmaker Charlie Allen has suffered a hamstring injury, making him the latest Leeds player to require treatment, with up to ten first-team stars currently out of action.

Allen, 19, was noticeably absent when the 21s flew south to face Brighton last Friday, as Michael Skubala took over as U21 boss. Luca Thomas scored a hat-trick to lead his team to a 4-2 victory.

Morten Spencer came off the bench to add to his tally. But Allen, who has twice represented Northern Ireland’s U21 team but has yet to make his senior debut, was absent. He now appears to have a hamstring problem.

It’s another setback for Allen, who, although not immediately a first-teamer, is obviously a contender. It comes after excelling for the 21s in their promotion success last season. The announcement was tweeted by LUFC Youth.

Daniel Farke has almost probably looked at Allen. He played 24 times for the second string last season, contributing to eight goals from midfield in a variety of roles. A 10, either deeper in midfield or out wide.

The teenager, who joined Leeds from Northern Irish club Linfield when he was 16 in the summer of 2020, has only appeared on the first-team bench once, in last season’s Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves under Jesse Marsch.

But, considering his form for the 21s last season, our seeming inability to replace players who go on loan, and the lack of a no.10, it may not be long before Farke calls on Allen. But, for the time being, he will be healing from an injury.
