While this may not be the case, here we go! Tottenham Hotspur is expected to finalize the acquisition of highly rated 19-year-old Alejo Véliz.
In the early hours of Friday morning in London, Fabrizio Romano verified the deal between Tottenham and Rosario Central.
The Argentine Primera División club has approved Spurs’ €15 million proposal including add-ons. Véliz’s physical will take place in the next days, confirming the transfer.
He will sign a five-year contract with Tottenham that will last through the end of the 2027-28 season.
Véliz scored 11 goals and provided an assist in 23 games for Argentina’s Primera División season 2022-23. He has two braces and nine appearances for Argentina’s Under-20 national team.
He can also dance both on and off the field. His off-key dancing is superior than mine, but that’s not saying much.
It’s a permanent agreement with no loan clause, so Veliz becomes a Tottenham player immediately.
Véliz is clearly a long-term investment and is unlikely to push for a starting berth this season.
Ange, on the other hand, favors youth development, giving the promising 19-year-old an idyllic opportunity to get some senior playing minutes, most likely in the Carabao Cup at first.
He is not, I repeat, not a Harry Kane replacement, but he is seen as a forward capable of thriving at the highest level.
While many South American prospects with a lot of promise struggle to adjust to the physical rigours of the top division, acquiring Véliz at such a young age bodes well for Spurs, who can put grooming and developing him in the experienced hands of Ange.
Let’s hope we see here we go! at least twice more before the weekend, once for Ashley Phillips and, most significantly, once for Micky van de Ven.
