Liverpool is anticipated to challenge the decision to send Curtis Jones to the sin bin during their 2-1 Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The midfielder was sent off in the 26th minute after referee Simon Hooper changed his initial yellow card to a red one. Hooper assessed the video at the pitchside monitor before making the judgement that Jones’ challenge of Yves Bissouma constituted serious foul play.

Luis Diaz‘s goal was incorrectly given away for offside, continuing Jurgen Klopp‘s bad luck with the video assistance referee throughout the game. VAR reviewed the goal and disallowed it, however the PGMOL afterwards issued a statement in which they acknowledged their error.

The use of VAR over the weekend in north London has drawn criticism from many, and Liverpool is allegedly preparing to challenge Jones’ dismissal. However, if they are unsuccessful in their appeal, the 22-year-old could have an additional game added to his suspension.

The decision states that if the appeal is found to be “frivolous,” Jones‘ suspension could be increased from three to four games, which would prevent him from playing against Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Luton Town.

Liverpool will file an appeal with the Football Association in an effort to have Jones’ suspension overturned since they don’t think the versatile midfielder used excessive force in his challenge.
